Mechanical Engineering is one of the core branches of engineering that caters to the diversified needs of the industry. Mechanical engineers are omnipresent in almost all the industries like automotive, refinery, off-shore, merchant navy and many more. It applies the principles of physics and materials science for analysis, design, manufacturing and maintenance of mechanical systems and involves the production and usage of heat and mechanical power for the design, production and operation of machines and tools. This evergreen branch of engineering field requires an understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science, structural analysis and design. Mechanical engineers use these core principles along with tools like computer-aided engineering and product lifecycle management to design and analyze manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, heating and cooling systems, transport systems, aircraft, watercraft, robotics, medical devices and others. The field has continually evolved to incorporate advancements in technology and mechanical engineers today are pursuing developments in such fields as composites, mechatronics and nanotechnology. The department of Mechanical engineering is established in ILM Collegeof Engineering & Technology with an intake of 60 students at the B.Tech level and engaged in starting M.Tech courses in specialization to suit the industrial needs.
The core objective of the department of Mechanical Engineering at ILM College of Engineering & Technology is to produce trained engineers to specifically suit the changing demands of the industry. Hands-on training with different systems and sub-systems, seminars and invited talks by technocrats and industry veterans and many more advanced methodologies adopted eventually mould the students into engineers who are innovative and worthy .
